Family Social Night

INCLUDES: Baked Ziti OR Fettuccini Alfredo, House Salad, Choice of Drink and Roll
Food Tickets may be purchased the day of the event for $10.

All games are FREE: Twister, bingo, checkers, chess, Connect Four, Lego station, and crafts!!!

Dance and Drama will perform scenes from "Teen Beach Movie".

Learning Express will have 4 free Rainbow Loom classes that night.  Classes are open to the first 40 kids ages 7+.  Class sizes are limited to 10 children.  The first bracelets made will be donated to Miami Children's Hospital.  Sign up for a class this week in the breezeway from 7:50am-9am. We will also raffle 5 Rainbow Looms.  Tickets are $1 and will be available for purchase that night.

Upper Academy News



District 8 Thespian and Drama Workshop Day 2013

The workshop will run from 8:30am - 3:00pm.  All sessions will be 45 minutes in length.  Fee is $6 per student if registered in advance and $8 per student at the door.

MDCPS Magnet School Application period begins on October 1, 2103 and all applications are due by January 15th, 2014. 


Information and application procedures are available through the School of Choice office at: www.dadeschools.netOnly one application can be submitted with up to five school/program choices allowed.  The application can be completed through the parent portal or it can be downloaded and mailed directly to the School of Choice Office of Miami Dade Public Schools.


Parents and/or students should contact schools of interest to make certain that they are providing all of the required documentation with their application.  Some schools will require supporting materials such as teacher recommendations or an audition.  Parents and/or students should verify that the schools of interest have received all of the required supporting documents.  Incomplete or incorrect applications will not be processed.



Vineland K-8 Center will host the following schools to provide presentations to our 8th grade students. These presentations will be scheduled during the school day. Parents are welcome to attend any of the information sessions.  Parents must sign in through the main office before each presentation.

Herbert Ammons Middle School Applications



Attention fifth grade students interested in attending Herbert Ammons Middle School next year.  Magnet recruitment for 2014-2015 begins on October 1, 2013. 

The application deadline is January 15, 2014.  Only one application per student will be accepted and no corrections will be made after the application has been submitted. Make sure to apply to five schools on your application.

Information and a link to the magnet application can be found on the "parent portal". Applications may be submitted directly online. Parents will need their pin # for the parent portal. Applications will also be available to print from the MDCPS website at

They are hosting a Magnet Recruitment Fair on Saturday, November 16th at 10:00 AM for both parents and students alike. We also offer tours (for parents only) on Wednesday mornings at 10:00 AM. Book Fair




Our in-school Scholastic Book Fair ended last Friday.  However, you may also purchase books at the Online Book Fair. Visit the Book Fair Homepage at http:/ and click on the Shop Now button. Online shopping is available until October 1, 2013.  Best of all, purchases benefit our school and will help us achieve our Book Fair goal. All online orders ship for FREE to the school, after the Online Fair has ended.

Don't forget to look for your teacher's online Wish List and add a book or two to your order for their classroom library. Click on the Classroom Wish List tab to see if your teacher is participating.

Vineland's families, again this year our Scholastic Book Fair was a great success! Together we put hundreds of books in our children's hands!

Fall Box Tops Contest  






Parents: Earn cash for our school and help your

child's class win a party, or two!


The first contest of the year runs from September 2nd - October 4th



Clip Box Tops coupons from hundreds of your favorite products.

Each Box Top = 1 Classroom point.



Send your Box Tops coupons to school on the collection sheet provided at the beginning of the contest with any extras in a baggie labeled with student name and homeroom teacher. Please make sure names are on collection sheets and bags as we want to give each class the credit they deserve!!  Have them turned into your homeroom teacher by the turn-in dates provided for each contest.  

Remember classes get double points for having the

The Upper Academy will not have collection sheets.

The top (3) three individual classrooms will be given a small party along with 2 reams of paper for their teacher! All classroom totals will be reset to (0) zero after each party.

Upcoming Community Events    



The Flu virus is spreading in South Florida. Vaccines may provide protection against the most common flu strains.   

The Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County  in collaboration with Miami Children's Hospital, Jose Felix Diaz, State Senator Anitere Flores, Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners Chairwoman Rebecca Sosa and Commissioner Juan C. Zapata are offering a free Flu vaccination day for children from 6 months through 18 years of age at the Miami Dade County Fairgrounds.


*  When:   Saturday October 5, 2013 

                10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (while supplies last)

*  Where:  Miami Dade County Fairgrounds, Arnold Hall

*  What:    Nurses will provide injections for children who are

Art South presents a free cultural event for kids on Saturday, September 28 from 3-6pm. Come and enjoy finger painting, t-shirt dying, face painting and more. You can dance, sing, act, play instruments and more.
