FCAT Testing

FCAT testing continues this week.

Please review the testing dates. It is important for your child to get plenty of rest the night before, eat a good breakfast and arrive to school on time each day.

If a student misses a session he/she will NOT be able to go on to the next session.  For example if a student misses Reading Session 1 on Wednesday he/she will NOT be able to take Session 2 the next day.  All subjects must be tested in the order assigned by the District.

If a student is absent on a day  testing is scheduled, he/she will be provided with the opportunity to make up that session during the scheduled administration period.  For example, if a student is absent during the administration of Reading, Session 1 on Wednesday, he/she would be re-scheduled to take Session 1 on their return to school.  (Note that tests with two sessions must be completed in order: Session 1 followed by Session 2.)

Staff Member of the Month

Mrs. Coomes is February's Staff Member of the Month.  She is helpful to all who enter the Media Center, from the youngest student to the parents who need books for lunch bunch. She not only maintains our library running smoothly, she also assists with book fairs, covering classes, the office, security and more. Mrs. Coomes often works extra hours without pay. She deserves to be the staff member of the month! Moreland is March's Staff Member of the Month.  She serves the entire school community, students, parents, teachers.  She provides support for children that are struggling academically and socially.  She is our community liaison for families in need during the holiday, working to get much needed food items and toys.  Mrs. Moreland is tireless, dedicated, compassionate and professional in all aspects of her job here at Vineland.  We are extremely fortunate to have her as our counselor.

ESE Parent Survey

We need your help to make Florida's 2013-2014 ESE Parent Survey a record success

Each year, the Florida Department of Education (FDOE) surveys parents of children with an individual educational plan (IEP) to determine how well your child's school is partnering with you and promoting your involvement in your child's education. All states must collect this data as part of their State Performance Plan, as required under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

You can complete the survey online at

or request a paper survey from Keisha Robinson at 305-626-3970.

Your feedback is important in helping the state and local school systems continue improving educational programs for children with special needs. Thank you!

April 30 is National Honesty Day. A former press secretary to the governor of Maryland M. Hirsh Goldberg came up with the idea. He chose the day in response to April Fools' Day on the 1st of April which celebrates falsehoods. Goldberg also wrote a book in 1991 known as The Book of Lies: History's Greatest Fakes, Frauds, Schemes and Scams. Honesty was our Miami Dade County Public School Core Value in December. Students learned in classroom lessons that honesty means dealing truthfully with people, being sincere, not deceiving people, not stealing, not cheating or lying. Let us be honest on April 30 and all the days after!

Career Day is designed to expose students to various careers through interactive and/or hands-on demonstrations. We would like to invite members of your company or organization to participate in this event by serving as guest speakers who will come to our school and share information, expertise, and job-related personal experiences with our students. If you, or someone you know, might be interested in participating in this event, please contact Mrs. Moreland, School Counselor, at (305) 238-7931 x2118 and complete and return the attached form.
